Squarectomy 's Thoughts:

This isn’t your Grandma’s doily! Okay maybe it is, you just have to put together like twenty of those formerly infamous things, and VOILA, chic! Read on to learn how to wear crochet in 2011, without looking like you got assaulted at a craft fair.

Bohemian Babe

Nothing screams confidence like mismatching your wardrobe. Crochet pants can seem nearly impossible to pair with anything. So quit fighting it, and instead opt for something that will cause the average person passing you on the street to raise an eyebrow. These muted Missoni crochet pants are begging to be contrasted with a lightweight camisole. This dark, rose print number from Topshop should do the trick. Finish your look with some platform heels and round sunglasses. Not everyone will get your outfit, but they will definitely want to know your story.

Festival Fox

Crochet is made for summertime. With all the festivals and outdoor events everywhere, you will be sure to beat the heat in this breathable look. A fringed, crochet caftan is just what you need for outdoor concerts as the sun sets and the cool night air kicks in. And what else to pair it with but another summer-time-cool-girl staple, denim hot pants. Finish the look with barely-there nude sandals and nearly any white bodysuit.

70’s Stylista

The seventies have a made a strong resurgence this year. Why not continue with the trend by rocking your crochet with some bells. A heavy cropped white crocheted shell, like this doily-looking thing from Topshop will look great with some rust colored flared bottoms. Some platforms and you are set!

Crafty Femme Fatale

So far we’ve gone over separates, but is it possible to wear crochet all-over, without looking like your great aunt dressed you? We are all stylish Chictopians, so of course! Ground your crochet dress with some uber sexy wedges. This red dress offers a little bit of peek-a-book play for a not-so-innocent look. Worn with these heavy black wedges you will certainly be the center of attention.

The fun doesn’t end there! There are also crocheted skimmers and sandals, which are sure to be huge throughout the summer. We have even seen crocheted accessories if you aren’t quite ready to brave an all over piece yet. And of course, there is the bathing suit. That being one of my personal favorite ways to wear crochet. Practical, maybe not? But does that matter when you will be the most stylish lady sitting poolside? Definitely not! This Missoni bathing suit# with its plunging neckline and strappy back is the things dreams are made of. So start experimenting and getting crafty with crochet! How will you wear yours?
